Frequency Sessions | Ōtautahi Panel Event

Canterbury is at a critical point in its growth, with population increases, city intensification, strong exports and a resurgence in tourism creating real momentum. Unlocking the next phase of opportunity, however, will require more than investment alone – it will require genuine collaboration.

Last week we brought together industry leaders to talk about Canterbury’s future. We explored how Canterbury can continue to grow as the South Island’s economic gateway while tackling challenges such as ageing infrastructure, constrained funding, fragile transport connections and increasing climate impacts. The discussion drew on the Connecting Canterbury Whitepaper and the Canterbury Ambition, both reinforcing the need for coordinated action across central and local government, iwi, and the private sector.

Canterbury has proven what’s possible when high‑trust collaboration is in place – the challenge now is to make that approach standard practice and not reserved for times of crisis.

A sincere thank you to our panellists Catherine Shipton, Leeann Watson, Jeremy Dixon, Graham Darlow, to our MC Paddy Neill, and to everyone who joined us for a thoughtful and constructive conversation.
